And you know what else could happen with the joining of these forces? Nuanced conversation on the abortion issue! I personally have loved the content of @secularprolife on Instagram. There's really so much to consider and so many of the talking points on both "sides" are manipulative and bullshit-y.
I don't know if this was among your goals when writing this, but to quote Jack Nicholson in "As Good as it Gets, "this piece made me want to be a better man." Perhaps its better to go with, "better human."
I've also read a few of your other pieces. I need this type of writing in my life. Keep it up. Subbed.
I am a man in his early 1960s. Our kids are now in their 30s. My wife and I have just entered the "let's spend all our time and money traveling and die broke" stage of life. So, you would think I would have no interest in this topic, but I enjoyed the post (linked from FdB), and stick with you to hear the entire pitch. Not sure I get the goat part, but that's OK.
During my lifetime, and especially over the last decade, on-line society has become so fractured and full of hate at the other tribe(s). I don't see it as much in real life, but people really do have better lives if they can at least try to get along with the other tribe. The old saying about avoiding politics and religion at dinner parties is as true a gravity. When I see a young someone say that they refuse to date/marry/speak to/co-exist with someone of the OTHER tribe, I just think they are making their own life worse. People moving because their neighbors voted for Trump or Biden, etc.
Life is short. You get just one. Try to enjoy some of it. Babies grow up fast. You will miss them (except the late night crying, temper tantrums and diaper changings - you won't miss those parts).
YES. You've voiced so eloquently what I've been trying to piece together for awhile now. I fall somewhere on the curvy part of the horseshoe so am ALL for moms for kids coming together and making ourselves heard!
I'd be careful. Patriarchy is bigger and older than our government. Patriarchy is the original disease that I personally believe birthed capitalism and colonialism. So, if someone is talking about serving her husband... I'm going to be careful about hitching my wagon.
However, gender identity has me looking at the left differently. To me the movement is plastic.
Read this because it sounded like someone from my side reaching across the divide. I recently wrote an article arguing the left and the right need to work together on the issues we agree on (like not mutilating and sterilizing kids with 'trans' care - let them grow up first and decide then what to do with themselves), and it got taken down by Mastodon - probably another social media platform too 'woke' to consider anything other than the right is nothing but Nazis.
I'm not a mother but I can appreciate your similar message - let's not argue about what we don't agree on, let's just work together on the issues we do.
Thanks for trying to be the solution rather than an extremist divider (on either side).
I looooove thiiiiis! Bravo.

Quite possibly my favorite article I can remember reading in a while!
Accurate descriptions and a thought-provoking concept to consider. Thank you for this well-rounded and witty piece. Loved it.

Thanks for allowing me to comment.
Love this comment.
Buy the plane ticket, David! Travel til you go broke!!
We are right now in the middle of a driving and training around Spain trip.
So far, so bueno. The vino is very inexpensive, though. So we have to make it up in volume in order to spend much.
O-L-E!
Yes! I’m in!

I am just loving how you’re trying to bring these two sides together. A great piece and I’m IN!

I love this so much. You’ve put into words exactly what I’ve been feeling for some time. There is such latent power in organizing moms.
